Season winds down with loss to Carleton

Macalester vs. Carleton statistics

Carleton knocked down 11-of-17 from behind the three-point arc and went on to defeat Macalester 77-55 at the Leonard Center in the season-finale for the Scots. Carleton shot 58% on the night to win for the eighth time in nine games.

The Knights turned a three-point lead into a 12-point 34-22 halftime advantage by out-scoring Macalester 9-0 over the final 4:21 of the period. Up until that point, the game was closely contested and the lead was no bigger than four points for either squad over the first 14 minutes of play.

The Carleton margin grew to 19 points at 47-28 with 16:20 to go in the second period and the Knights were never threatened after that.

Kyle Hamblett (Jr, Paris, France / American School of Paris) canned three from behind the arc and paced Macalester with 13 points, while Pierce Peters (Fy., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) added 10 points on a 5-for-8 shooting performance. Holden Bigler-Johnson (Jr., Austin, Tex. / Anderson) contributed nine points and four assists.

Mac earned slim advantages in turnovers and offensive rebounds, but could not overcome Carleton's hot shooting.

Jeremy Sutherland scored 22 points and assisted on 10 baskets to lead the way for CC. Seth Jonker finished with 15 points and four steals, and Blaise Davis had 10 points and four assists.

Before the game, Macalester honored its three seniors on Senior Night: Jerry Kraus (Bucharest, Romania / Chaparral – Colo.) Paul Richie (Grand Rapids, Minn.) and Mark Smedley (Vancouver, Wash. / Columbia River).
