Late three-pointer sinks Macalester at St. Olaf

Macalester and St. Olaf battled for 40 minutes as the Scots were going for their first conference triumph of the season, but the Oles scored the game-winning three-pointer with 1:09 remaining and went on to gain a 68-64 win over the Scots in Northfield.

The Scots claimed slim second half leads at 4:04 on a Colin Keeley (Jr., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) three-pointer, at 2:12 on a pair of Holden Bigler-Johnson (Jr., Austin, Tex. / Anderson) free throws, and at 1:20 on two Keeley foul shots. However, St. Olaf's Tucker Sheley nailed the game-winning trey with just over a minute to play.

Keeley finished with 21 points and seven rebounds to pace the Scots.

This battle featured 11 ties and 14 lead changes and the largest margin of the game was a seven-point Macalester advantage at 40-33 early in the second half. The lead was never greater than four points for either team over the game's final 12 minutes.

In addition to receiving 21 points from Keeley, the Scots picked up 11 points and five assists from Bigler-Johnson. Colin Keeley (Sr., Bucharest, Romania / Chaparral – Colo.) came up with seven points, eight rebounds and four assists.

St. Olaf was led by Bobby Fong with 18 points and eight boards. Sheley was 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and added 14 points.

Macalester closes out its 2009-10 season Wednesday (Feb. 17) at home against Carleton at 7:30 p.m.
