Augsburg pulls away for 74-53 win over Scots

Macalester fell short in its bid for the team's first MIAC win, but showed improvement Saturday afternoon in a 74-53 loss at the Leonard Center to Augsburg. The Auggies nailed 59% of their shots in the opening half to earn an 11-point lead at the break, and up by 12 points with 6:23 to play at 59-47, clinched the victory by out-scoring Mac 15-6 the rest of the way.

The Scots earned a +3 turnover advantage and collected nine steals. Augsburg, however, went 20-for-24 from the free throw line and finished at 50% shooting on the day. The Auggies move up to fourth place in the MIAC standings at 4-3 (9-3 overall), while Mac is now 2-11 overall and 0-8 in the conference.

Colin Keeley (Jr., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) finished with 12 points to pace Macalester. Holden Bigler-Johnson (Jr., Austin, Tex. / Stevenson) put together a solid all-around game, collecting eight points, four assists, four boards and a couple steals. Colin Jarvis(Fy., Madison, Wis. / West) also handed out four assists.

Jon Cassens scored 18 points and collected six assists to lead Augsburg. Andy Grzesiak-Grimm had 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.

The Scots take to the road Wednesday night (Jan. 13) to challenge Carleton in Northfield.
