Macalester vs. Bethel statistics
The Bethel Royals completed their season sweep over the Scots Wednesday night at the Leonard Center, running out to a 40-24 halftime lead and going on for an 80-62 triumph. Bethel shot 50% from the floor to overcome a 39-29 Mac rebounding advantage.
Kyle Hamblett (Jr., Paris, France / American School of Paris) scored 14 points and distributed three assists to lead the Scots, and
Holden Bigler-Johnson (Jr., Austin, Tex. / Anderson) added 12 points.
Colin Keeley (Jr., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Jerry Kraus (Sr., Bucharest, Romania / Chaparral – Colo.) contributed seven boards and four assists.
Bethel's Chris Vavra was hot from the outside and finished with 26 points after scoring 17 in the opening half. Greg Meyer scored 16 points and Nate Robertson had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Zach Hurd had four assists and four steals, leading BU to a 24-10 turnover margin.
The Royals opened up a 19-5 lead and remained in control. Mac played much better in the second half, scoring 38 points and cutting down on turnovers.
The Scots return to the floor Saturday (Jan. 30) when they host league-leading St. Thomas at 3 p.m. The Tommies have a two-game lead in their quest for a fifth straight MIAC crown. Saturday is Hoops for Hunger Day as fans can contribute canned goods or money for Second Harvest Heartland food shelf.
