Macalester vs. St. Mary's statistics
St. Mary's closed out the opening half with a 17-7 run to go up by 15 points at the break, and went on to topple Macalester 78-60 in Winona. The Scots shot 63% in the second half, including 4-for-5 on three-pointers, but could not overcome a St. Mary's advantage on the boards.
Four Scots reached double digits in scoring, led by
Paul Richie (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.). Richie knocked down 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and finished with 14 points to go along with five assists.
Jerry Kraus (Sr., Bucharest, Romania / Chaparral – Colo.) chipped in with 12 points, five rebounds and a couple steals.
Pierce Peters (Fy., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) contributed 11 points, two assists, two blocked shots and two steals.
Kyle Hamblett (Jr., Paris, France / American School of Paris) added 10 points, and
Colin Keeley (Jr., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) had nine points and a team-high six boards.
The Cardinals shot 51% from the floor and enjoyed a 38-24 advantage on the boards. Three players accounted for 82% of their points while shooting 69% combined. Chris Palmer led the way with a game-high 24. Will Wright added 21 points and Lukas Holland scored 19.
The Scots fall to 2-14 overall and 0-11 in the MIAC, while the Cards go up to 6-10 on the season, 4-7 in conference play.
Macalester's next four games are at home, starting with a contest Saturday (Jan. 23) with Hamline at the Leonard Center at 3 p.m.
