Macalester vs. St. Olaf statistics
Macalester played one of its best all-around games of the season, but visiting St. Olaf tallied the game's final seven points to gain a 67-62 comeback win over the Scots at the Leonard Center. The Scots led nearly the entire contest, but St. Olaf was within striking distance all the way as the margin was never greater than seven points.
Mac's biggest second half lead was seven at 54-47 with 8:02 to play. The Oles, however, responded with an 11-2 run which knotted the tally at 58-58 with 4:12 remaining. Macalester's final lead was at 62-60 with 3:04 to go, but from that point on it was 7-0 in favor of the guests.
Barely denied their first conference win, the Scots are now 2-13 overall and 0-10 in the MIAC. The Oles go up to 7-7 on the season, 5-4 in the MIAC.
The Scots out-scored St. Olaf 16-8 in points off turnovers, 24-16 in points in the paint, and 13-6 in second chance points. There were eight lead changes and the score was tied on seven occasions.
Colin Keeley (Jr., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) pumped in 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the way for Macalester.
Paul Richie (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) made three three-pointers and finished with 10 points.
Jerry Kraus (Sr., Bucharest, Romania / Chaparral – Colo.) led all rebounders with nine boards to help Mac out-rebound the Oles 34-28.
Pierce Peters (Fy., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) led the defensive effort with four steals and Richie added three thefts while handing out four assists.
Holden Bigler-Johnson (Jr., Austin, Tex. / Anderson) also contributed four assists.
The Oles were 16-for-19 from the free throw stripe and went 7-for-19 on threes. Bobby Fong scored 17 points, Mark Torell scored 14 (going 4-for-9 on threes) and Alfred Jaryan had 12 points, three assists and three steals.
Macalester is off until next Wednesday (Jan. 20) when they travel to Winona to take on St. Mary's. The team's next four games after that are at home.
