Macalester vs. Gustavus statistics
Gustavus Adolphus shot 62% from the floor, and the same percentage from three-point territory (8-for-13), to gain an 87-59 MIAC victory over the Scots at the Leonard Center. The Gusties received 56 points from their bench and were credited with assists on 22 of 33 baskets.
The Scots hung tough with the Gusties for the first part of the game and trailed by five points at 27-22. At this point of the contest, the two teams had combined to make 21 of 33 from the field (64%). The Gusties kept their hot hand and staged a 21-10 run over the final 7:57 of the first half to go up on top 48-32 at the break. The Gusties shot 68% in the first half. Gustavus was never threatened in the second half.
Macalester received most of its scoring from guards
Paul Richie (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) and
Kyle Hamblett (So., Paris, France / American School of Paris), who combined to make 15 of their 23 shots. Richie finished with a game-high 19 points, going 5-for-8 from three-point range. Hamblett finished with 17 points on an 8-for-11 shooting night and is now shooting 53% on the year. Richie was 7-for-12 overall from the field. The Scots also shot well on the game, going 25-for-47 for a 53% mark.
The taller Gustavus team enjoyed a 36-16 margin in points in the paint and was paced by Bobby Johnson with 15 points. Dan Schmidtknecht pumped in 11 points and Jesse Van Sickle added 10. In addition to shooting 62%, the Gusties were a perfect 13-for-13 from the charity stripe.
