Upset-minded Scots come up short at Carleton

Macalester vs. Carleton statistics

Macalester battled Carleton tough all the way through, and was within just three points with four minutes to play, but the host Knights hung on for a 64-56 win in Northfield.

Kyle Hamblett (So., Paris, France / American School of Paris) and Paul Richie (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) combined for 39 points for the Scots, but the upset-minded Scots came up just a little short in their search for the season's first victory. Carleton came into the game in a five-way tie for second play in the league standings, and improves to 16-7 overall and 12-6 in the MIAC.

Hamlett went 8-for-19 from the floor and paced Macalester with 21 points. Richie made 4-of-10 tries from three-point territory and finished with 18 points. Richie is averaging 16.2 points over the team's past five games.

Jerry Kraus (Jr. Bucharest, Romania / Chaparral (Colo.)) led the Scots on the boards with eight rebounds.

MIAC scoring leader Zach Johnson paced the Knights with 20 points and Bryan Rosett added 14. The Knights were only 2-of-19 on three-point shots.

The Scots close out the season Wednesday (Feb. 18) at home against St. Olaf at 7:30 p.m
