Macalester vs. St. Benedict statistics
Trina PaStarr (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) scored her 1,000th career point late in the first half, but four-time defending conference champ St. Benedict shot 48% from the field and 50% on three-pointers to defeat Macalester 75-65 at the Leonard Center. The Scots, playing their final game before January, are now 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the MIAC. St. Benedict moves up to 6-1 overall, 4-0 in the MIAC.
PaStarr's three-point play near the end of the first half boosted her career total to 1,000 as she becomes the eighth player in the history of the program to reach this milestone.
Shannon Rene (So., Madison, Wis. / Memorial) scored a career-best 18 points, going 5-for-8 on three-point tries, to pace Macalester.
Ann Baltzer (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) added 13 points and eight rebounds, while PaStarr added 11 points.
Eartha Bell (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Breck School) passed for four assists and
Danielle Johnson (Sr., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) handed out three.
The Blazers were led by Amy Stifter with 18 points and seven boards. Heather Gillund contributed 17 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots. CSB was 8-for-16 on three-pointers. St. Ben's is tied with Gustavus on top of the MIAC standings.
Macalester had its final lead on a Baltzer basket at the 9:48 mark of the opening half before the visitors took control of the contest with a 25-8 run to close out the period and go into the intermission with a 42-27 advantage. The Scots closed the gap to eight points four minutes into the second half re-gained control midway through the period.
