Macalester vs. Martin Luther statistics
Macalester shot a red-hot 75% in the second half, going 18-for-24 from the floor, to pull away for an 81-69 win over Martin Luther College at the Leonard Center and pick up its second victory of the year.
Kyle Hamblett (Jr., Paris, France / American School of Paris) led four Scots in double figures, finishing with 19 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists, a couple steals and a blocked shot.
The Scots improve to 2-5 on the season, while the Knights drop to 1-7 with their third setback in four days. Macalester never trailed and was on top 32-28 at halftime.
In the second half, Macalester missed just six shots, while going 6-for-8 on three-pointers and 7-for-7 from the free throw stripe.
Joining Hamblett in double figures were
Holden Bigler-Johnson (Jr., Austin, Tex. / Anderson) with 12 points, and
Jerry Kraus (Sr., Bucharest, Romania / Chaparral – Colo.) and
Pierce Peters with 10 each. Kraus grabbed 11 boards for his first career double-double, while Peters chipped in with three assists and two steals.
Andy Bowman (Fy., Perry, Kan. / Perry-Lecompton) made four of five shots for eight points.
Five different Scots had a blocked shot on the night.
Greg Holzhueter paced Martin Luther with 18 points. Justin Danell added 11 and Ryan Kolander had 10.
The Scots went on out top 7-2 and 15-6 to take control of the game. Down by 10 points at 26-16, MLC rallied for 10 in a row to deadlock the score with 4:05 left in the first period. Mac led 32-28 at the intermission.
Macalester's shooters put together streaks of making five in a row and later seven in a row over the first 11 minutes of the second half and enjoyed a double-digit lead for most of the period, icing the win with a 6-for-6 free throw shooting effort by Bigler-Johnson in the final minute.
The Scots are off for a week and return to action next Monday (Dec. 21) at home against Colorado College at 2 p.m.
