Macalester vs. Northwestern statistics
Macalester hung close to Northwestern for most of the game, trailing by three six minutes into the second half and seven points with seven to play, but the Eagles out-scored the Scots 17-0 over the final 5:52 to earn a 72-48 win in Roseville.
Colin Keeley (Jr., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) had 11 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Scots.
Northwestern, the co-choice to win the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, improves to 3-1 on the year, while Macalester is now 1-1 heading into its MIAC opener next Wednesday (Dec. 2) at home against St. Mary's.
Each team turned by ball over 17 times, but the Eagles earned a 24-8 lead in points off turnovers. Northwestern went 7-for-18 on three-point tries, compared to 3-for-12 for Mac. The game was much closer than the final score.
In addition to getting a second double-double from Keeley in two games off the bench, the Scots received eight points from
Jerry Kraus (Sr., Bucharest, Romania / Chapparal – Colo.) and seven apiece from
Holden Bigler-Johnson (Jr., Austin, Tex. / Anderson) and
Kyle Hamblett (Jr., Paris, France / American School of Paris). Hamblett distributed four assists and
Paul Richie (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) dished out three.
Northwestern had four players with at least 13 points, led by Gabe Jefferson with 17 points and Reid Berens with 15 points and eight boards. Eric Garst had a big night, finishing with 14 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
