Macalester vs. St. Thomas statistics
Macalester hosted the D3hoops.com No. 1-ranked team in the NCAA Division III when it took on unbeaten St. Thomas Saturday afternoon at the Leonard Center and was no match for UST's defense in an 86-41 defeat. The Tommies led 35-6 before Macalester snapped a 12-minute scoreless drought, and led 44-12 at the halftime break. Macalester played much better in the second half but ended up on the short end of an 86-41 tally.
St. Thomas picked up 20 steals on the day and the guests enjoyed a 27-12 turnover advantage and made 60% of its shots (36-of-60). Macalester was held to a 35% shooting figure.
UST used a balanced scoring attack, getting a game-high 13 points from Brett Tuma and 10 points from Joe Scott. Five teammates added eight or nine points. The Tommies were credited with 26 assists.
Kyle Hamlbett (So., Paris, France / American School of Paris) scored 10 points to pace the Scots.
Macalester returns to action Monday (Feb. 2) in Collegeville against St. John's.
