Macalester vs. Augsburg statistics
After a closely-played first half of competition, Augsburg began a 16-4 run early in the second half to turn a six-point advantage into a 59-41 lead with 13:10 to play, and went on to defeat the visiting Scots 81-60 in Minneapolis. The Auggies improve to 7-5 overall and 5-2 in the MIAC. Still seeking their first triumph of the season, Macalester is now 0-13 overall, 0-8 in league play.
Three-point shooting was a key difference. Augsburg went 7-for-19 while Macalester went 2-for-17 from behind the arc. The Auggies also enjoyed a commanding 42-26 margin on the boards by holding the Scots to three offensive rebounds.
The two teams combined to go 30-for-33 (91%) from the free throw stripe.
Macalester was led by
Colin Keeley (So., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) with 20 points and eight rebounds, matching a season-high in point production.
Kyle Hamblett (So., Paris, France / American School of Paris) made good on eight of 11 shots on the day and finished with 18 points.
David Olson netted 23 points and Andy Grzesiak-Grimm tallied 20 to pace Augsburg, while Nate Alm pulled down 12 rebounds.
The Scots are off until next Wednesday (Jan. 14) when they travel to Northfield to take on St. Olaf.
