Woldeslassie Scores 30 in loss to Augsburg

Abe Woldeslassie (Sr., Richfield, Minn. / St. Thomas Academy) reached the 30-point plateau for the fourth time this season and also handed out eight assists, but Augsburg shot 59% to beat the Scots 88-71 in Minneapolis.

 

The Auggies, who have won four straight and five of six to move into contention for a conference playoff berth, improve to 9-11 overall, 7-8 in the MIAC.  Macalester falls to 6-14, 4-11 in the league.

 

Augsburg out-scored its guest 22-5 over the final 5:30 of the first half to go up 49-27 at the intermission, and enjoyed a double-digit lead throughout the entire second half.  The Auggies shot 67% over the first 20 minutes.  At one point in the first half, Augsburg made 18 out of 20 shots, including 11 in a row.

 

Woldeslassie, who came into the contest ranked third in the MIAC in both scoring and assists, knocked down 5-of-7 from behind the arc and had 24 of his 30 points in the second period.  This is the second time in three games Woldeslassie has distributed eight assists.

 

Tom Conboy (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn. / Minnetonka) added 16 points and eight rebounds, and Kyle Hamblett (Fy., Paris, France / American School of Paris) scored 12 points.

 

Nate Alm paced Augsburg with 19 points.  Jon Cassens had 15 points and eight assists.  Femi Solaja scored 14 points and Justin Kozlowski finished with 12.

 

The Scots return to action Saturday against St. Olaf at the College of St. Catherine.
