Macalester vs. St. Thomas stats & play-by-play
St. Thomas stormed to a 49-20 halftime lead and cruised to a dominating 100-48 win over the visiting Scots, avenging a last-second defeat to Macalester earlier in the season. The Tommies shot 62%, distributed 28 assists and enjoyed a 25-15 advantage in giveaways, leading to a 42-10 points off turnovers margin.
Now 11-1 since falling to Macalester on Dec. 5, St. Thomas improves to 17-3 overall and 13-2 in the MIAC, keeping its lead on first place. Macalester drops to 6-13 on the season, 4-10 in the MIAC.
UST canned 8-of-11 tries from behind the arc in the first half on the game was a red-hot 63% on three-pointers (13-for-19).
Tom Conboy (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn. / Minnetonka) was 7-for-11 from the floor and paced Mac with 17 points. Abe Woldeslassie (Sr., Richfield, Minn. / St. Thomas Academy) chipped in with 15 points. Kyle Hamblett (Fy., Paris, France / American School of Paris) had three assists, three steals, and with six rebounds, becomming the first Scot this season other than Conboy to lead the team in rebounds.
Joe Scott was 5-for-6 on three-pointers and led the Tommies with 19 points. Three others reached double figures, while Grant Hennington was 5-for-5 from the field and handed out five assists in just 12 minutes on the court.
The Scots return to action Wednesday (Feb. 6) at Augsburg.
