Macalester vs. St. Mary's statistics
St. Mary's grabbed its first lead of the game on a layup with :20 to play as the Cardinals rallied for a 67-65 win over the Scots in Winona in the MIAC season-opener for both teams. Macalester scored the game's first two points and led 4-2, and then held the advantage until SMU's winning bucket with 20 seconds to play.
James Murrey (Jr., Western Springs, Ill. / Lyons Township) dropped in his first 11 shots and went 11-for-12 from the floor to lead the Scots, finishing with a season-best 23 points. A two-time All-MIAC baseball pitcher, Murrey came out for basketball this year and has emerged as a key contributor off the bench.
St. Mary's improves to 2-3 on the young season and Macalester falls to 0-5.

Colin Keeley (So., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) also had a solid game on the front line, scoring 14 points on a 6-for-10 shooting performance, and pulling down a game-high eight rebounds.
Jerry Kraus (Jr., Bucharest, Romania / Chaparral (Colo.)) made all four of his shots and finished with nine points and six boards, while
Kyle Hamblett (So., Paris, France / American School of Paris)added eight points.
Will Wright paced the Cards with 24 points and four steals, and Lukas Holland netted 20 points. Wright scored the game-winning basket.
Both teams shot over 50% but each struggled from the three-point line, combining to go just 5-for-28. St. Mary's went 13-for-24 from the foul line, compared to 4-for-5 for the visitors. The Cardinals shot 63% in the second half to come back from a 59-50 nine-point deficit with 8:49 to play.
Macalester will attempt to bounce back from this heart-breaker when it plays host to Hamline on Saturday (Dec. 6) at 3 p.m.
