Macalester vs. Wisconsin-River Falls statistics
Macalester returned from a three-week break with a 77-44 defeat at Wisconsin-River Falls as the Falcons win for the sixth time in seven games.
Playing their final non-conference game of the season before returning to MIAC play this weekend, the Scots made 55% of their two-point field goal tries, but went 0-for-15 from behind the arc and turned the ball over 21 times. Mac drops to 0-9 on the season. Upstart Wisconsin-River Falls jumps to 7-4. The only Falcon losses in their past eight games have come to No. 1 ranked UW-Platteville and No. 3 St. Thomas.
UWRF turned an early 7-5 lead into a 21-point halftime cushion as the hosts went into the intermission up 40-19 with the help of a 6-for-10 three-point shooting effort. The Falcons were never threatened in the second half.
Colin Keeley (So., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) and
David Lewin (Sr., Wayland, Mass.) scored eight points apiece to lead the Scots. Lewin made 4-of-8 from the floor in just 14 minutes off the bench.
Jerry Kraus (Jr., Bucharest Romania / Chaparral (Colo.)) grabbed six rebounds and
Kyle Hamblett (So., Paris, France / American School of Paris) contributed six boards and a couple steals.
Four Falcons reached double digits in scoring, led by Jontae Koonkaew with 16 points to go along with five assists and three steals, and Jake Voeltz with 15 points. UWRF pulled down 18 offensive boards and enjoyed a 19-2 margin in second chance points.
Macalester faces one of its biggest challenges of the season when it makes the short trip down Snelling Ave. to take on powerhouse St. Thomas this Saturday (Jan. 3).
