Gustavus uses big first half rally to beat Scots

Gustavus Adolphus stormed out to a 40-28 lead at the break by shooting 58% in the first half and went
on to best Macalester 72-45 at the College of St. Catherine. The Gusties out-scored Mac 19-2 during seven-minute stretch, starting midway through the first half, to go up 38-23, and after that were never seriously threatened while extending their winning streak to four games.

Gustavus improves to 9-6 overall and 8-4 in the MIAC. Macalester drops to 5-10 overall, 4-8 in MIAC play.

The Scots were led by Trina PaStarr (So., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest), who finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and a couple blocked shots. Seven of her boards were off the offensive glass. Ann Baltzer (So., Bismarck, N.D.) added 10 points and Danielle Johnson (So., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) handed out five assists.

The Gusties, who out-scored their hosts 29-9 on points-off-turnovers and 44-22 in points-in-the-paint, were led by Jess Vadnais, who finished with 18 points and three steals. Julia Schultz contributed 14 points, eight boards and three steals. GAC's defense held the Scots to a 5-for-27 second half shooting performance and a season-low for points.

Macalester plays Saturday (Jan. 26) against St. Catherine at CSC's Butler Center.
