Gustavus gains MIAC win over Scots

Gustavus Adolphus kept pace with St. Thomas on top of the MIAC standings by cruising past the Scots
 70-51 at the College of St. Catherine 's Butler Center . Other than for a couple minute stretch midway through the first half, the Gusties led the entire way, largely by holding Macalester to a 38% shooting figure for the night.

Winners of 12 of their last 13 games since a defeat to Macalester in St. Peter in late November, the Gusties improve to 13-3 on the season. They are tied with UST on top of the league standings at 9-2. Macalester drops to 5-11 overall and 3-8 in the MIAC.

Abe Woldeslassie (Sr., Richfield, Minn. / St. Thomas Academy) scored 16 points to lead the way for Mac. He was joined in double figures by Tom Conboy (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn. / Minnetonka), who finished with 13 points to boost his career total to 1,703. He needs just five points to become the program's all-time leading scorer. Conboy also grabbed 12 rebounds for his sixth consecutive double-double. He now has 33 double-doubles in his Mac career and has reached double figures in scoring in 32 games in a row.

Gustavus was led by Kane Sivesind with 18 points and seven rebounds. Jesse Van Sickle added 14 points and five assists. The Gusties enjoyed a 16-6 margin in second-chance points thanks to 16 offensive rebounds on the night.The Scots are off until next Wednesday (Jan. 30), when they travel to Winona to take on St. Mary's.
