33-game home unbeaten streak snapped by Wartburg

Wartburg snapped a 33-game Macalester home field unbeaten streak by defeating the Scots 2-1 in St. Paul.  Mac's last home defeat before today was Sept. 17, 2004 when the University of Chicago beat the Scots 2-1 in overtime. Since then, they had gone 29-0-4 at home before night. This was just Mac's third home defeat since the middle of the 1997 season. In the 103 home games prior to today, Macalester was 90-3-10 at home.

With their seven-match winning streak snapped, the Scots go to 7-2 on the season. Wartburg improves to 8-3.

Wartburg jumped out to a quick lead when Amanda Clayton scored at the 6:08 mark. At 62:43, the Knights extended their lead to 2-0 on a Katelin Gannon score.

Martha Coe (Fy., Grand Haven, Mich.) brought the Scots back into the contest when she tallied her second goal of the year at 68:23 and Macalester had just over 20 minutes to tie things up and force an overtime. The Knights, however, were able to hold on for the victory. Emily Hall (Fy., Seattle, Wash. / Roosevelt) assisted on Coe's score.

The Scots play three straight challenging MIAC road matches, beginning with a game Wednesday (Oct. 3) at Augsburg at 7:30 p.m.
