In a match between a couple teams looking for their first conference victory, Macalester and Augsburg played three close games in Minneapolis. It was the Auggies, however, who claimed all three by scores of 30-28, 30-25 and 30-25 for the sweep. Macalester drops to 2-11 on the season and 0-5 in the MIAC, while Augsburg improves to 8-10 overall, 1-4 in the MIAC.
Majra Mucic (Fy, St. Louis Park, Minn.) spiked 10 kills, hit at a .381 percentage and served four of her team's nine aces to lead the way for the Scots. Defensively, Macalester was led by Marie Godwin (So., Chaska, Minn.) with 18 digs and Marisa Raether (Sr., San Marino, Calif.) with 16 digs.
Erin Cusac (So., Pine River, Minn. / Pine River-Backus) provided a team-leading 11 kills to go along with 11 digs and a couple aces. Suzy Szumowski (Jr., Northbrook, Ill. / Glenbrook North) had four blocks.
Augsburg was led by Laura Harms with 16 kills and Shanna Reed with 39 assists.
The Scots return to MIAC competition Wednesday (Oct. 3) when they play a 7 p.m. match at St. Catherine.
