Macalester and Luther played to a double overtime scoreless tie Sunday night in St. Paul . This is Macalester's third tie of the year through nine games. The Scots are now 4-2-3 on the season and Luther is now 3-3-2.
Even though no goals were scored, each team had numerous scoring chances. They were either unable to finish or were denied by goalkeepers Evan Mitchell (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / South) of Macalester and Lief Madsen of Luther. Mitchell was credited with six saves – including a huge game-saving stop near the end of regulation – and Madsen made eight saves.
On the season, Mitchell is unbeaten and has allowed just one goal in 517 minutes in front of the net. His goals against average is down to 0.17.
Macalester out-shot the Norse 23-14. The Scots had nine corner kick opportunities, compared to five for Luther.
At 1-1 in league play, the Scots return to MIAC competition Wednesday (Sept. 26) at Hamline.
