Carson Gorecki (Jr., Mahtomedi, Minn.) took advantage of an Ole defensive mistake to net his sixth of the year as Macalester beat St. Olaf 2-0 Friday night in St. Paul. The Scots go to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the MIAC, while St. Olaf is now 3-5 overall, 1-2 in the MIAC.
The match was evenly played and each team had numerous scoring opportunities. Both goalkeepers enjoyed solid games; Mac's Ryan Palmer (Sr., Helena, Mont. / Capital) made six saves, including a huge second half stop on St. Olaf's Nate Swenson, and St. Olaf's Kevin Friede made four saves.
Alex Whitworth (Sr., Forest City, N.C. / North Carolina School of Science & Mathemtics) assisted on Van Wylen's goal at the 36:27 mark. Gorecki's goal came at 79:48.
Macalester hosts Luther (Ia.) Sunday (Sept. 23) at 7 p.m. and then returns to MIAC competition Wednesday (Sept. 26) at Hamline.
