Overtime goal by King sinks St. Scholastica

-Grace King (Jr., Northampton, Mass.) beat the St. Scholastica keeper on a double assist from Rose Betzler (So., Northfield, Minn.) and Meghan Garrity (Sr., Walled Lake, Mich. / Marian) with just :32 left in the second and final overtime period as the Scots escaped with a 1-0 non-conference win over the Saints in St. Paul.

The Scots go to 4-1 with their fourth straight win, while CSS is now 4-2-1.

King, who is off to a great start, has scored seven of her team's 10 goals through five games and has assisted on two of the team's other three scores. The All-MIAC forward has now put away five of Mac's past six goals. King had nine shots, including five shots on goal, against the Saints to help Macalester out-shoot CSS 26-3. The Scots took 10 corner kicks, compared to just one for the guests.

With the match apparently headed for a scoreless draw, St. Scholastica punted the ball away with less than a minute to go. Mac's Amy Hutchinson (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / South) headed a pass off the punt to Garrity, who quickly started the breakaway the other way with a pass to Betzer, who set up King for the winner.

Macalester, which moved up into the No. 6 spot in the most recent Central Region poll, returns to MIAC competition with a match Friday (Sept. 21) at St. Olaf. The Scots and the Oles are two of the three teams off to perfect 2-0 MIAC starts, along with St. Benedict.
