Carleton improved to a perfect 9-0 on the season with a 30-10, 30-8, 30-23 sweep over the Scots in Northfield in the MIAC opener for both teams. Macalester drops to 2-7 overall, 0-1 in conference play.
The Knights, who just missed out for a spot in the most recent national top-25 poll, hit at a .337 percentage and averaged 14.3 kills per game.
Macalester was held to 20 kills for the match, led by Erin Cusac (So., Pine River, Minn. / Pine-River-Backus) with seven kills and Kate Fahje (Sr., Waukesha, Wis. / South) with six. Kari Tanaka (Sr., Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) led the team in assists with 11 and digs with seven. Marie Godwin (So., Chaska, Minn.) contributed six digs, while Cusac and Marisa Raether (Sr., San Marino, Calif.) each had five digs.
The Scots are off until next Tuesday (Sept. 18) when they travel to St. Mary's for their second MIAC match of the year.
