Macalester vs. UW-Eau Claire statistics
No. 21-ranked Macalester faced one of its most difficult season-openers in years, taking on a No. 15-ranked Wisconsin-Eau Claire team coming off a 23-3 campaign a year ago.
The host Blugolds turned a 1-1 halftime contest into a decisive 3-1 victory by scoring twice midway through the second half. Eau Claire out-shot Mac 18-3.
Grace King (Jr., Northampton, Mass.) accounted for Macalester's lone goal when she scored on an assist from Emily Hall (Fy., Seattle, Wash. / Roosevelt) in the 30th minute. That tied things up after the Blugolds took the advantage just six minutes in.
This was Mac's first defeat in a season-opener since falling to Eau Claire 1-0 in 1994. It is the first time the Scots have surrendered three goals in a regular-season contest since late in the 2004 campaign.
Macalester plays its home-opener Wednesday (Sept. 5) against Wisconsin-River Falls at 7:45 p.m.
