Augsburg defeated Macalester 1-0 Wednesday night in Minneapolis , handing the Scots their first MIAC setback of the season and giving Mac just its second regular-season MIAC loss in 40 games. Coming in, the Scots were 33-1-5 in conference games since a loss during the 2003 campaign to St. Benedict.
Following this match between a pair of leading contenders for the league crown, Augsburg improves to 6-3-3 overall and 4-1-1 in the MIAC. The Auggies haven't been scored on in five games. Macalester is now 7-3 overall and 4-1 in MIAC play. This was Augsburg's first win over Mac since 1996.
Augsburg 's Lacey Hoover netted the game's only goal at 57:42 and Augsburg goalkeeper Maggie DeGroot made 10 saves on the night to help the Auggies win despite being out-shot 21-9. Hoover 's goal was assisted by Katie Medd and Jackie Keller.
Macalester out-shot Augsburg 21-9 and had eight corner kicks, compared to four for the hosts. Of Macalester's 10 shots on goal, Maddie Mette (So., Burnsville , Minn) provided three and Grace King (Jr., Northampton, Mass.) had two.
The Scots face another big MIAC challenge when they travel to St. Joseph on Saturday (Oct. 6) for a 1 p.m. match with St. Benedict. The No. 22-ranked Blazers are all alone on top of the MIAC standings at 6-0.
