Cobbers topple Scots 2-0 in MIAC playoff semi-finals

October 30, 2007 - Macalester fell to conference champion Concordia 2-0 in an MIAC playoff semi-final match in Moorhead . The Cobbers (15-3-1) advance to the playoff finals this weekend against St. Benedict (15-4), which won its semi-final contest Tuesday over Augsburg 2-0. The winner gets an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

For the Scots, their season ends without a fifth consecutive trip to the national playoffs as Mac is not considered a candidate for an at-large bid. The Scots reached double digits in the win column for the 19 th year in a row and finished at 10-6-1. They tied for third place in the regular-season MIAC standings at 7-3-1.

Concordia, which has allowed just two first half scores all season, went up quickly with a Sam Johnson goal at 12:01. Another Concordia frosh, Susan Obermiller, gave CC a comfortable goal-margin with another score at 38:00. Concordia called on its goalkeeper to make just one save.

The Cobbers played outstanding defense and out-shot Macalester 10-3, including 6-1 on shots on goal.

Saturday's MIAC championship game between the Cobbers and Blazers will be played in Moorhead.
