Scots improve to 4-3 in MIAC action; Beat St. Mary's 2-0

Macalester claimed its second straight MIAC decision to move over the .500 mark in the conference standings, beating St. Mary's 2-0 in Winona. The Scots improve to 7-5-3 overall and 4-3 in league play as head coach Ian Barker picks up his 50th head coaching victory at Macalester. Barker, co-head coach along with John Leaney from 2003-06 and head coach this year, is now 50-31-10 overall, including 30-12-5 in MIAC matches.

The Scots have surrendered just one goal over their last four games as the defense continues to improve.

Carson Gorecki (Jr., Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Eric Tettegah (Fy., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Breck School) scored second half goals and Macalester out-shot the Cardinals by a commanding 26-5 margin. Both goals were unassisted.

Gorecki's score came at the 49:19 mark after the Scots had out-shot the Cards 10-1 in the first half. It was his seventh of the season, ending a six-game scoring drought. Gorecki's next goal will move him into the top-ten on Macalester's all-time list (He now has 18).

Tettegah, who broke a scoreless time with a late game-winning breakaway goal earlier in the week against Concordia, made the score 2-0 with an unassisted score at 83:44 to clinch the victory.

St. Mary's drops to 2-10-1 overall and 0-7 in the MIAC.

At 4-3 in the conference, Macalester is in the thick of a tight multiple-team battle for one of four sports in the MIAC post-season playoffs. The team's next match is Wednesday (Oct. 17) at home against St. Thomas at 7:45 p.m. This could be crucial to Mac's playoff hopes.
