Macalester slump hits four games

Concordia received goals from Sam Johnson in the seventh minute and Rachel Lewis in the 12th minute and went on to defeat Macalester 2-1 in Moorhead . Macalester's Meghan Garrity (Sr., Walled Lake, Mich. / Marian) netted her first goal of the season in the 76th minute, but the Cobbers held on for the win.

With their fourth straight defeat, the Scots drop to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in the MIAC. Concordia, the final unbeaten team remaining in the MAIC, is now 9-2-1 on the season, 6-0-1 in the league. The Cobbers have now won seven straight since a tie with Augsburg . Macalester has dropped four in a row for the first time in two decades. Mac, in fact, had never lost more than two in a row in the same season in 18 years under Coach John Leaney before this season.

Macalester's lone goal came off a free kick by Garrity, who curled a shot over the head of the Cobber goalie at 76:39. The Scots, however, only had 13 minutes to score the equalizer and force overtime, and Concordia was able to hold on.

The Scots attempt to turn things around when they host St. Mary's on Friday (Oct. 12) at 7:30 p.m.
