Tomas Adalsteinsson begins his third year as the Macalester's Men's and Women's Golf Coach in 2014. He joined the Macalester staff in 2012.
Adalsteinsson is a former golfer for Iceland's national team and in 2000 placed 25th at the European Team Championship. In 2001 he was Icelandic Junior Champion and Icelandic Junior Tour Champion.
Prior to coming to Macalester, Adalsteinsson was the head boys' varsity golf coach at Lakeville South High School in Lakeville, Minn., and before that was head boys' coach at University High School in San Francisco and a junior instructor at Keilir Golf Club in Iceland.
Adalsteinsson led Lakeville South during the spring season of 2012 to second place in the South Suburban Conference. The team set two school records during the season, and ended fifth in its section, only four shots from first place and a spot in the state championships.
In his teens, Adalsteinsson golfed with the Icelandic youth national teams from 1998-2003. He has experience coaching both golf and soccer. Last fall Adalsteinsson served as an assistant women's soccer coach at Carleton College and for the last year he has been a staff coach for Eden Prairie Soccer Club.
Adalsteinsson is a graduate of the University of Iceland and received his master's in sports psychology from John F. Kennedy University in California. Adalsteinsson has provided sport psychology consultation to individuals and teams.
