Macalester College Athletics

All-MIAC  outside hitter Laura Avena (Jr., Cesis, Latvia / Riga Gimnasium #1) averaged 3.8 kills per set in leading Macalester to a 1-2 week.  Avena and the Scots swept North Central 3-0, lost to No. 7-ranked St. Thomas, and lost a close battle to a hot Carleton team.  Avena hit .273 in the three matches and collected a season-best 19 kills in the four-set match with Carleton.  She also served eight aces and had 19 digs on the week.  Avena is currently ranked second in the MIAC in kills per set (4.0) and third in points a set (4.7).
