Two-time all-region pitcher James Murrey (Sr., Western Springs, Ill. / Lyons Township) matched a 73-year-old school record when he fanned 18 batters in eight innings or work in a 1-0 10-inning victory over No. 30-ranked Johns Hopkins (Md.). Mac’s all-time win and strikeout leader, Murrey surrendered just four hits and two walks against previously unbeaten Johns Hopkins, a team which made the NCAA playoffs the last three years. Murrey ties the 1937 Mac record of 18 established by Rex Kern.
