Macalester College junior pitcher
James Murrey (Western Springs, Ill./Lyon Township) has been selected as
MIAC Pitcher of the Week for April 27 - May 3.
The Macalester ace and two-time all-conference pick tossed a two-hit shutout Saturday (May 2) over Bethel in the first game of a Macalester doubleheader sweep over the Royals. Murrey struck out 10 and walked just two, reaching double-digits in strikeouts for the third time in five conference starts. In five MIAC starts, the Macalester ace went 3-2 with a 0.81 ERA, striking out 42 and walking only four in 33 1/3 innings. MIAC opponents hit just .172 off him.
Murrey will enter his senior season just one win and two strikeouts short of Mac school records in those two career categories. Through three seasons, Murray is 19-9 with a 2.35 ERA. He has pitched 172 innings, striking out 198 while allowing 64 walks. Opponents are batting only .234 against him and he is yielding just 1.83 earned runs for every seven innings pitched.
