Three Scots selected to All-MIAC team

MIAC post-season awards

Three Macalester Scots have been named to the 2009 All-MIAC baseball team as selected by league coaches: pitcher James Murrey (Jr., Western Springs, Ill. / Lyons Township), third baseman Devin English (Jr., Annapolis, Md. / DeMatha) and shortstop Nate Wilson-Traisman (Jr., Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene).

This trio of juniors led the Scots to a sixth-place 10-10 conference record and 19-19 overall slate. Murrey is a three-time All-MIAC selection, English is a two-time pick, and Wilson-Traisman earns his first all-conference award.

Murrey went 3-2 in five MIAC starts and led the conference in earned run average (0.81), opposing batting average (.172) and strikeouts (42 in 33 1/3 innings against just four walks). Overall, he was 6-3 with a 1.95 ERA (currently 19th best in the nation) and is ranked 11th in strikeouts per nine innings (12.4).

English, the team's defensive MVP, was once again one of the best all-around third basemen in the league. He batted .359 in 20 conference games (23-for-64) with a .484 slugging percentage and .468 on-base average.

Wilson-Traisman came within four RBIs of a school record with 44 in all games and led the team with a .425 batting average and .630 slugging percentage while playing every inning of the season at shortstop. Wilson-Traisman batted .344 in 20 conference games with 15 runs batted in.

Three other Scots picked up honorable mention all-conference honors: outfielder / catcher Graham Brown (Fy., Annandale, Minn.), second baseman / pitcher Mitch Glasser (Fy., Chicago, Ill. / The Latin School) and catcher / first baseman Robert Williams (Fy., West Covina, Calif. / Northview).

Brown was seventh in the league with a .429 MIAC batting average with eight steals in eight attempts. Glasser hit .323 in conference play while playing well defensively at second base. Williams batted .317 in MIAC games with seven doubles, two homers and a .533 slugging percentage.

Alex Ingram (So., Chicago, Ill. / Morgan park Academy) was named as Macalester's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team.
