SAINT PAUL, Minn.- The Macalester College women's basketball team lost to Gustavus Adoplphus College 76-54 tonight. Macalester is now 8-14 and 5-10 in the MIAC.

While the Gusties pulled away from the Scots in the end, Macalester was in close competition with Gustavus all through the first half. The Scots opened play with a lay-up by senior center
Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont./ Helena) who led the Scots in scoring with 18 points and six rebounds. Macalester continued to traded baskets with the Gusties and ended the first quarter just down four, 18-14.

In the first half the Scots shot well in the paint, 48 percent, and was excellent from behind the arc, shooting 83 percent. senior guard
Vivi Gregorich (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) led the Scots in three-pointers, scoring 5-7, with two in the first half. The Scots were out-scored by just one point in the second quarter, 13-12, and went into half-time down 31-26.

Gregorich continued to play well after the break, tallying 15 points in the game as Macalester's second leading scorer. However, after shooting just 28 percent from the field in the second quarter the Gusties nearly doubled their shooting percentage in the second half. Gustavus pulled away from Macalester in the second minute of third quarter, as they went up 48-38.

Macalester had no answer for the Gusties perfect shooting percentage from behind the arc and went into the fourth quarter down 57-40.

While Fruh continued to generate from the baseline and first years  Â
Katie Sowerby (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais),
Kayla Togneri (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) and
Katherine Podoll (San Geronimo, Calif./Sir Francis Drake) tallied seven points between them off the bench, the Scots could not keep up with the Gusties.

While the Scots produced in the fourth quarter, being outscored only 19-14, the game ended 76-54 in favor of Gustavus, who is third in the MIAC.

The Gusties were led by Miranda Rice who tallied 27 points and four rebounds.

The Scots return to action home against the Saint Mary's University on Sat., Feb. 10 in Saint Paul, Minn. at 3:00 p.m.
