ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's track and field team competed at the BearCat Invite hosted by Concordia St. Paul Wednesday evening. In one of the Scots final tune-ups before the MIAC Championships, the team sent a pared down squad of athletes to run fast and seek strong marks to close out the season.
Senior
Meghan Klapper (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) cleared a personal best 1.57 meters (5-01.75) in the high jump to finish third overall, and tops among Division III athletes. In the triple jump, senior
Sarah Silbert (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) was eighth with a mark of 9.74 meters (31-11.50).
In the hammer, senior
Lynn Zemaitis (Gurnee, Ill./Carmel) threw a personal best mark by more than a meter. Her 38.89 meter (127-07) toss earned her ninth overall. Junior
Clara Baumann (Wausau, Wis./Wausau) placed seventh in the javelin with a performance of 31.74 meters (104-02).
Sophomore
Amy Pelz (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) had a top 10 finish in the 400 meter hurdles finishing in 1:11.48. First year
Lily Schliemann (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) placed 12th in the 200 in a personal best time of 27.28.
In the 800 meter dash, senior
Eliza Ramsey (Olympia, Wash./Capital) and sophomore
Elena Smith (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial) placed 14th and 15th, crossing the line in 2:19.78 and 2:20.10, respectively. Senior
Kimber Meyer (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) placed fourth in the 1500 with a time os 4:43.54.
To close out the meet first-year
Kayla Hostetler (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee Crown) broke 20:00 flat in the 5,000 meter race for the first time, running 19:57.31, a personal best by more than 45 seconds.
Tomorrow afternoon in Northfield, senior
Brooke Hunter (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) will open the MIAC Championships for the Scots at the two-day Multi Event Championships. The rest of the squad will have their final regular season competition at the Meet of the Unsaintly hosted by Hamline University on Saturday, May 6.
