ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's track and field team hosted the Hamster Invite Friday night and were beaten by a single point in the team scoring. Hamline had 175 to Macalester's 174. Also competing were St. Benedict and the throwers from St. Thomas. The meet was inaugurated just last year and combines the names of Hamline and Macalester. Event winners also take home an animal appropriate, one-of-a-kind t-shirt.
Junior Hannah Sonsalla (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) was the 400 meter dash winner crossing in 1:00.04. She also anchored the 4x200 meter relay to a win running with senior Kara Komoto (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake), first year Hannah Detlaff (Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), and senior Anik Regan (Tucson, Ariz./University). Komoto had an individual event win herself in the 60 meter dash crossing in 8.09 seconds. Regan also took third in the pole vault clearing 2.86 meters (9-4.5).
Teammates Victoria Casarrubias (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) and Natalie Prescott (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) took the top 2 spots in the 600 meter run. The first year Casarrubias finished in 1:41.27, while Prescott, a senior, followed up in 1:43.75. In the 800 meter run, senior Allison Pillar (Chicago, Ill./Whitney M. Young) set down a 2:28.26 to win. Senior Kimber Meyer (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) won the mile in 5:16.19, as fellow senior Eliza Ramsey (Olympia, Wash./Capital) placed third in 5:29.03.
Also earning a victory was senior Megan Klapper (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury), who won the high jump with a mark of 1.54 meters (5-0.25).
In the 3000 meter run, senior Megan Davitt (Albany, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) and sophomore Marlee Yost-Wolff (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) went 2-3, respectively, finishing in 11:12.63 and 11:25.46. The 4x400 meter relay closed out the night with Sonsalla once again throwing down a strong anchor leg to win in a time of 4:06.32, with Casarrubias, Prescott and Regan running the opening legs.
The Scots will be competing next Friday, February 3 at the University of St. Thomas Showcase.
