ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's track and field team hosted the Hamster Invited Friday evening in the Leonard Center Field House. The team took third overall with 118 points behind Hamline (134) and St. John's (200). Throughout the night there were many strong individual performances and both relays turned in solid races.
The Scots pulled off a mid-distance sweep. In the 600, senior
Tayeb Zaidi (San Francisco, Calif./Lick-Wilmerding) won in 1:26.60. Sophomore
Ethan Engberg (Middleton, ID / Middleton) placed first in the 800 meter run in 2:03.05. First year
Billy Retza (Crivitz, Wis. / Crivitz) won the 1000 meter run and also placed third in the high jump.

Henry Harper (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park) continued his impressive rookie campaign with a win in the 3000 meter run. His 9:05.39 edged out senior teammate
Lachlan Hinwood (Colfax, Wis./Colfax), who finished second in 9:07.37.

Eddy Reyes Herrera (Sonoma, Calif./Sonoma Valley) placed second in the 400 clocking in at 52.94. Senior
Tre Nowaczynski (Hales Corners, Wis./West Allis Central) had a quadruple set of second place finishes. In the long jump he leapt to 6.27 meters (20'07"). His second runner-up finish came in the 4x200, with senior
Aidan Hennen (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall), Eisner, Reyes Herrera and Nowaczynski in a time of 1:35.65. Then, he came across the line in the 200 meter dash in 23.45. Finally, he teamed up with Reyes Herrera, senior
James Hargens (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) and Zaidi in the 4x400 to place second in a time of 3:34.56.
The mile run featured a third-place finish for sophomore
Chris Boranian (Oakland, Calif./Head Royce) who crossed in 4:37.13. Sophomore
George Howe (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University High) earned third in the pole vault with mark 3.80 meters (12'05 ½").
The Scots will be back next Friday, February 3 at the University of St. Thomas Showcase.
