NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College men's track and field team was in action at St. Olaf's Tostrud Classic featuring plenty of firepower from MIAC foes. It was the final chance for the team to post marks in hopes of qualifying for the indoor conference meet.
First year Henry Harper (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park) was third in the 3000 meter race in a time of 8:54.45. Senior Lachlan Hinwood (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) followed up finishing 10th in 9:01.83. In the same event, junior Mac Doherty (Madison, Wis./Madison East) came in at 9:04.79 and first year Jake Lepak (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS) finished in 9:11.36.
Senior Spencer Nelson (Liberty, Mo./Liberty) was the winner of the 5000 meter race in a time of 16:39.81.
The 4 x 400 meter relay running with junior Brian Eisner (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal), senior James Hargens (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy), first year Eddy Reyes Herrera (Sonoma, Calif./Sonoma Valley) and senior Tayeb Zaidi (San Francisco, Calif./Lick-Wilmerding) placed third crossing the line in 3:32.81. In the 600 meter dash, Zaidi posted a ninth-place finish in 1:25.54.
Junior David McNichols (New London, Wis. / Shiocton) qualified for finals in the shot put with a mark of 12.82 meters (42-00.75). In the high jump, first year Josh Benjet (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Friends Central) placed 10th clearing 1.56 meters (5-01.25).
