COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Macalester College women's track and field team was in action today at the St. John's/St. Ben's Alumni Meet in Collegeville, MN. Competing in the unscored meet were athletes from Macalester, St. Benedict's and Blazers alumni. Perhaps the most anticipated part of the meet is the final event — wacky 4 x 200s — in which relays teams dress in fun themes.
It was a big meet for senior
Lynn Zemaitis (Gurnee, Ill./Carmel) as she placed first in the weight throw going 39-7 (12.06 m). Her winning throw was a personal best of more than a meter. Also on the field side, senior
Sarah Silbert (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) went top three in both the long and triple jump. She took second in the long with a jump of 15-0 1/2 (4.58 m) and picked up third in the triple at 31-3 (9.52 m). Senior
Anik Regan (Tucson, Ariz./University) placed third in the pole vault clearing 8-9 1/2 (2.68 m).
A trio of seniors swept the 200 meter dash with
Kara Komoto (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) winning in 27.22 seconds. She was followed up by Regan at 27.62 and
Brooke Hunter (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) in 28.46. Hunter also won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.53 seconds.
First year
Victoria Casarrubias (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) placed second in her first collegiate 400 meter race in a time of 60.83 seconds. Senior
Natalie Prescott (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) and junior
Hannah Sonsalla (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) went 2-3 in the 800 meter run separated by a tenth of a second at 2:26.69 and 2:26.70 respectively.
In the mile run, senior
Megan Davitt (Albany, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) ran a lifetime PR of 5:40.59 to place third.
Kimber Meyer (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) was the winner of the 3000 meter run finishing in 10:28.75, while
Sarah Jo DeVore (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) also broke 11 minutes on her way to a third-place finish (10:55.71).
Several Scots turned in performances that are promising marks as the team begins to gear toward the MIAC indoor championships which will be held February 24-25 at the University of St. Thomas. Next up, the Scots will host the Hamster Invitation in the Leonard Center Fieldhouse on Friday February 3.
