COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Macalester College men's track and field team competed at the Saint John's/Saint Ben's Alumni Meet in Collegeville, Minn. Though the meet was unscored, the event featured strong performances from Scots, Johnnies, and Johnnies alum alike. The meet is also capped in fun fashion with 4 x 400 teams dressing in wacky and witty costumes.
Junior
Jack Schultenover (Glenwood, Minn./Minnewaska Secondary) was the winner of the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.06 seconds. Though he was a hair shy of matching in the school record he set a week ago (7.05), this was Schultenover's second best effort ever. In the 400 senior
Tre Nowaczynski (Hales Corners, Wis./West Allis Central) led a sweep of the top three finishing in 52.68 seconds. Junior
Brian Eisner (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) - 53.02 - and first year
Eddy Reyes Herrera (Sonoma, Calif./Sonoma Valley) - 53.17 - quickly followed. First year
Henry Harper (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park) placed second in the mile run in a time of 4:34.40.
In the field, junior
David McNichols (New London, Wis./Shiocton) placed third in the shot put behind an effort of 40-5 1/2 (12.33 m). Sophomore
George Howe (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS) placed second in the pole vault clearing a height of 12-0 (3.66 m).
Head coach
Margaret Gehring was pleased with the day. "For this time of year and given that we are still training though meets people had some really strong performances, and I'm looking forward to seeing our team keep building," Gehring said.
Next up, the Scots will host the Hamster Invitation in the Leonard Center Fieldhouse on Friday February 3.
