COLFAX, Wis. – Friday evening the Macalester men's cross country team traveled to Colfax, Wisconsin to compete in the competitive Blugold Invitational hosted by UW-Eau Claire, the defending NCAA DIII national champions.
The Scots placed 10th overall out of 15 teams with a score of 265 points. UW-Eau Claire took the top team spot with an impressive 29 points and Lakehead University's Kevin Tree was the first across the line of the 282 finishers with a time of 24:42.9.
The Mac Pack was led by senior
Lachlan Hinwood (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) who completed the course in 26:26.4 for 32nd place. Hinwood was followed by sophomore
Spencer Grant (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) who came through the line in 55th place running 26:53.1.
Third for the Scots was first year
Henry Harper (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park) who finished in 27:32.9 (94th). Finishing together for the Mac Pack's fourth and fifth scoring places were sophomores
Chris Boranian (Oakland, Calif./Head-Royce School) and
Mac Doherty (Madison, Wis./Madison East). Boranian finished in 27:41.0 (102nd) and Doherty in 27:42.4 for 104th.
"We ran a strong last 4K as a team to move into good company in the results," head coach
Matt Haugen said. "I was especially thrilled by the efforts of

Henry Harper and
Spencer Grant. It was a good day to be a Spencer."
The Scots will race again Saturday, Oct. 15 at the UW-La Crosse Jim Drews Invite in Ettrick, Wis.
