Men’s Cross Country: Mac Pack Kicks Off Season at Augsburg College Alumni Meet

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester men's cross country team began their 2016 campaign with a third place finish at the Augsburg College Alumni Meet Saturday morning at Riverside Park. The Scots tallied 74 points behind Wartburg College (41) and conference rival St. Olaf (64). There were six teams competing.
 
The Scots placed their top 5 runners in the top 20 overall and posted the lowest spread for their scoring runners with just 22 seconds separating senior Lachlan Hinwood (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) and sophomore Mac Doherty (Madison, Wis./Madison East).
 
Hinwood, the team's top returner, led the pack with a 10th place overall finish. He completed the 5000 meter course in 16:40.1. Sophomore Spencer Grant (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) came in 13th running 16:50.9. UW River-Falls' Julian Manley was the individual winner in 15:56.5
 
The number three runner for Macalester and 16th overall was sophomore Chris Boranian (Oakland, Calif./Head-Royce School) finishing in 16:56.4. In his collegiate debut, first year Jake Lepak (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS) crossed the line 17th in a time of 17:01.3. Rounding out scoring for the Scots, Doherty timed in at 17:02.1 finishing 18th.
 
The team will be back in action Friday, September 9 at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Invitational.
