ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's track and field team hosted the Janis Rider Invitational on Saturday at Macalester Stadium. The Scots placed third out of 10 teams in the team standings, with Saint Benedict winning the meet.
Senior
Sarah Jonathan (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) lowered her own school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase by .04 seconds with a time of 11:03.01. She remains unbeaten in her specialty event in three races this spring, setting a school record in each race. Sophomore
Hannah Sonsalla (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) posted the program's third-best time in the 400 meters, taking second in 57.91 seconds.
Also placing second in their events were junior
Kara Komoto (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) in the 100 meters (12.74) and junior
Brooke Hunter (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) in the 100 meter hurdles (15.70). In the 5000 meters, sophomore
Lorna Sherwood Caballero (New York, N.Y./LaGuardia HS of Arts) and first year
Elena Smith (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial) finished in second and third, respectively.
First year
Phoebe Aguiar (Prairie Village, Dan./Shawnee Mission East) took third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.29. Junior
Kimber Meyer (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) took fifth in the 3000 meters in 10:22.57.
In the field events, senior
Risa Luther (Portland, Ore./Franklin) was fourth in the hammer throw and seventh in the discus, while first year
Halla Dontje Lindell (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter) placed sixth in the triple jump. Sophomore
Clara Baumann (Wausau, Wis./Wausau) threw the javelin 36.10 meters to take fifth place.
Macalester will compete at the Tommie Twilight on Wednesday, May 4 at St. Thomas.
