Baseball: Macalester Drops MIAC Doubleheader at Concordia

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Macalester College baseball team lost twice to Concordia College, 8-0 and 13-1 in a MIAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Bucky Burgau Field. The Scots fall to 15-16 overall and 5-13 in league play, while the Cobbers move to 19-14, 9-7 MIAC.

Macalester managed just two hits off Concordia starter Tanner Kluis in Game 1, as the Cobbers cruised to an 8-0 win. Concordia scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings, then put three runs on the board in the sixth. Senior Sam Berk (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity School) and junior Quentin Stuart (Nashville, Ind./Indiana Academy) had the hits for the Scots.

Macalester struck first in Game 2, as senior Jonathan Melms (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) came home from third on an error in the top of the third inning. But the Cobbers tallied seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the third to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Again the Scots struggled at the plate, as Stuart, senior Nick Sia (Crofton, Md./South River) and sophomore Ben Castagnetti (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) had Macalester's three hits.

The Scots wrap up MIAC play with a doubleheader at St. Olaf College on Monday, May 2, beginning at 2:30 p.m. in Northfield, Minn.
