ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's track and field team hosted the Hamster Invitational Friday night at the Leonard Center Fieldhouse. The Scots had three first-place finishes and placed third behind Hamline and Saint John's.
Senior high jumper
Logan Hovie (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) won his third straight competition by clearing 2.03 meters for the second meet in a row. On the track, sophomore
Nolan Ebner (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) took the 600 meters with a time of 1:23.76, while first year
Mac Doherty (Madison, Wis./Madison East) won the 3000 meters in 9:18.48.
Other solid performances by the Scots' middle distance corps were turned in by first year
Spencer Grant (Sherwood, Ore./Jesuit), who was second in the 800 meters, sophomore
Kai Heen (Philadelphia, Pa./J.R. Masterman), junior
James Hargens (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) and first year
Ethan Engberg (Middleton, Idaho/Middleton), who were third, fourth and fifth in the 600 meters, and first year
Chris Boranian (Oakland, Calif./Head Royce) and sophomore
Nate Merrill (Durham, N.C./Cedar Ridge), who were third and fourth in the mile. Senior
Alex Ropes (Pella, Iowa/Pella) also was third in the 3000 meters.
Next up for Macalester is the Saint John's Triangular on Saturday, Feb. 13 in Collegeville, Minn.
