ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's track and field team placed fourth at the Kilt Classic, held in the Leonard Center Fieldhouse Friday evening. The Scots posted three first-place finishes, including a new school record by sophomore
Nolan Ebner (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase).
Ebner, who broke a 26-year-old record in the 800 meters at the Saint John's Triangular on Feb. 13 with a time of 1:57.23, took more than a second off that mark in winning the 800 in 1:56.04. That performance currently ranks fourth in the MIAC this season.
The other two event winners came in the field events. Senior high jumper
Logan Hovie (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) improved on his season best by clearing 2.07 meters (6-9.50). Hovie is now 11th nationally in the high jump with that mark. Sophomore
Miles Keys McKay (Santa Cruz, Calif./Santa Cruz) turned in the eighth-best triple jump performance in the MIAC this season, winning with a leap of 12.91 meters (42-4.25).
Other solid performances were recorded by senior
Trevor Maggart (Tokyo, Japan/American School of Japan), who was second in the mile; sophomore
Jack Schultenover (Glenwood, Minn./Minnewaska), who placed third in the 60 meters; first year
Ethan Engberg (Middleton, Idaho/Middleton), who took third in the 600 meters; and senior
Mac Doherty (Madison, Wis./Madison East), who finished third in the 3000 meters.
Macalester heads to the MIAC Indoor Championships next weekend, beginning Thursday, Mar. 3 at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.
