Women’s Cross Country: Meyer to Nationals as Scots Take Ninth

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Competing at the Central Regional Championships in Northfield, Minn., the Macalester women's cross country team took home a top 10 finish behind a top five performance from Kimber Meyer (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North). The team scored 285 points to finish ninth. The two automatic team bids to the National meet went to St. Olaf (91 points) and Nebraska Wesleyan (110 points). The individual winner was Audrey Miller from Loras in a time of 21:19.9.

Meyer placed 5th in a time of 22:11.6. The senior earned her fourth straight all-region honor and punched her fourth ticket to Nationals, where she will vie to complete her run of all America honors. She has previously finished 22nd, 7th and 30th.

Next across for the Scots were seniors Eliza Ramsey (Olympia, Wash./Capital) and Sarah Jo Devore (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) who ran 23:40.6 (51st) and 23:50.3 (60th). Junior Lorna Sherwood Caballero (New York, N.Y./LaGuardia H.S. of Arts) crossed in 78th place with a time of 24:05.7.

Junior Lea Davidson (Walla Walla, Wash./Walla Walla) rounded out scoring when she finished in 91st at 24:20.0. Seniors Gretchen Greene (Madison, Wis./Memorial) and Megan Davitt (Slingerlands, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) came in 111th (24:39.0) and 140th (24:21.8), respectively.

Experience was certainly on the Scots side today with an entirely upperclassman bunch. For the five seniors, with the exception of Meyer, it was the last time they will step to the line in a Macalester cross country uniform. And even for the two juniors it was also a last race in a sense, as both Sherwood Caballero and Davidson will miss the track season as they soon head abroad.

Coach Betsy Emerson was pleased with the team result noting the depth of the Central Region competition. "I'm so proud of all our women and the races they put together," said Emerson. "It was especially wonderful to see Kimber earn her fourth trip to Nationals and I'm so excited to see what she will do there."
