ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester women's cross country team raced at the St. Kate's Invite this morning, turning in a fourth place team finish. The host Wildcats were the team champion and Augsburg's Taybri Irving covered the 5 kilometer course in 18:57.4 to win.
First across for the Scots was junior Lorna Sherwood Caballero (New York, NY/LaGuardia H.S. of Arts) who placed 10th in a time of 19:44.3. Next was senior Gretchen Greene (Madison, Wis./Memorial) who ran 19:55.2 to finish 17th. She was quickly followed by sophomore Amy Pelz (Seattle, Wash. / Roosevelt) who crossed 18th in 19:56.0.
Fourth for the team was first year Lydia Simpson (Seattle, Wash./Nathan Hale) who took 21st place in a time of 20:00:9. Senior Becky Honnold (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) finished off scoring in 25th place with a time of 20:20.5.
Coach Betsy Emerson was excited to see the team out fast in the first mile. "It was a great opportunity for some different people on our team to front run and it was good to see them in that position," she said.
All the Scots will be back on the line October 15 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Invitational.
